Leaving treatment can be both exciting and intimidating. Many people know they want to continue their recovery but aren’t sure where to begin once they’re back home.
Bridging the Gap (BTG) is an Alcoholics Anonymous service that helps connect people leaving treatment with a local A.A. member who can make those first few days a little easier. The volunteer serves as a temporary contact—someone who can answer questions, meet you at a meeting, introduce you to other members, and help you get connected with the A.A. community.
A.A. experience has shown that the time between leaving a treatment facility and attending that first meeting can be one of the most vulnerable periods in early recovery. Bridging the Gap exists to help make that transition a little less overwhelming.
A temporary contact is not a sponsor or counselor, but simply another recovering alcoholic who wants to help you get connected.
If you’re preparing to leave a treatment program and would like someone to help you get started in A.A., you can sign up online.

There is no cost, and your information is used only to connect you with an A.A. volunteer in the area where you’ll be living.
