Nightwatch Volunteer Program – Dallas Intergroup

Because the call for help doesn’t keep office hours.

Since 2001, the Nightwatch program at Dallas Intergroup has ensured that when someone calls A.A. for help after hours, they reach a real alcoholic in recovery—not a recording. This vital service helps connect newcomers with local A.A. meetings and members as quickly as possible.

Nightwatch volunteers answer calls from 5:00 PM to 8:30 AM on weekdays, with daytime and overnight shifts available on weekends.

Nightwatch volunteer responsibilities:

  • Answer A.A. hotline calls during your assigned shift
  • Provide meeting information using the Dallas Intergroup website or Meeting Guide app
  • Help connect callers with local A.A. members when appropriate
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all caller information
  • Be available and attentive during your shift (do not screen calls)

Suggested qualifications:

  • At least one year of sobriety
  • Completion of the 12 Steps
  • Familiarity with Working With Others (Chapter 7 of the Big Book)
  • A desire to help the still-suffering alcoholic

Volunteers receive instructions, a confidential 12th Step contact list, and resources to help them carry the A.A. message effectively.
