May Intergroup Meeting
Monday, 05 May 2008

The May Intergroup Meeting is this Thursday, May 8 @ 8pm.  As usual the meeting will be held across the street from the Central Office at the First United Lutheran Church, 6202 E. Mockingbird Lane, Dallas 75214.  We hope all the group Intergroup Reps will be present.  Bring any flyers you would like posted or to give out to the Reps.  Board members will be present for any questions you might have.  Board members are more than happy to come out to your group for presentations or workshops.  The Intergroup Rep/Central Office Workshop will be help this summer, hopefully in July.  We are working on times with the church.  We have two major conferences coming up this month you will not want to miss.  The Big D Roundup and the Gathering of Eagles both take place over Memorial Day weekend.  A reminder that the Central Office will be closed for Memorial Day which comes a little early this year.  The office will be closed May 26th for the holiday.  Check out the events page for more conference information.  The Central Office has been asked to have a literature table at the Gathering of Eagles, plus we help with the candlelight meetings.  Both conferences have wonderful speakers and workshops.  It is a busy weekend for Dallas AA.

It looks like we will run out of the Winter/Spring Meeting Schedules sooner than expected.  We have opened the last box which means it is time to send in any changes you need to make in your group schedule, address, phone number.  Compare your group information with what is on the website.  We use the information on the website to update the printed schedule since we are constantly changing the website information according to your latest information.  Please note that we are only as current as you allow us to be.  Check your group schedule and let us know ASAP.  We will announce the deadline at this month's Intergroup Meeting.

New items:  Grapevine has published Emotional Sobriety on CD, vol 1 and vol 2.

They also have Spiritual Awakenings on CD in vol 1 and vol 2.

Both books on CD are now in stock.

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED IN THE SECOND ANNUAL DIA CHILI COOK-OFF!!

WE HAD A GREAT TURNOUT, AROUND 125 PEOPLE, AND LOTS OF EXCELLENT CHILI TO TASTE.  A SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR VOLUNTEERS, AND TO JEFF H. FOR HIS BEHIND THE SCENES WORK THAT MADE IT ALL COME TOGETHER.  THANKS JEFF.  WE HAD 13 CHILI ENTRIES TO TRY, ALL OF THEM VERY, VERY GOOD.  THERE WERE PLENTY OF TUMS AND MINTS TO BE FOUND ON THE TABLES, BUT THEY WERE NOT NEEDED THIS YEAR.  I DIDN'T SEE EVEN ONE GREEN FACE -INCLUDING THE JUDGES.  THE CONTEST WAS A CLOSE ONE BUT THERE HAD TO BE A WINNER, A RUNNER UP AND THIRD PLACE AWARDED.

  • First Place was Town North
  • Second Place was Georgetown
  • Third Place was Clean Air North

Excellent chili from the winners.  The plaque for first place will be awarded at the event of their choice.  The second place plaque is new this year and is a Texas shaped with an engraved bronze plate.  Third place was a ribbon.

We will have Town North's name engraved below Georgetown's on the 1st Place plaque.  Town North will have the plaque for a year and all bragging rights.

It was a night of fellowship and fun.  Our speaker drove all the way from Granbury, and back, and gave us a wonderful talk.  Thanks Claudia for that long drive.

We will have more to post about the cook-off.  Check back for photos of the winners!!

Newsflash

The office has had several inquiries about a second volume of the popular Grapevine publication, Emotional Sobriety, The Next Frontier.  While it is still one of our bestsellers, there is not a second volume out, at this time.  What may be confusing is the way the Grapevine catalog has listed the audio book.  The audio "book" for Emotional Sobriety is divided into 2 volumes/or 2 CD's.  It is still from just the one book.  The first volume covers sections 1-3 from the book and the second volume covers the remaining sections 4-6.  I hope this clears up any confusion.  If not, give us a call.

Thank You to the Preston Group for answering our phones during the recent outage!  As usual they came through for us and took care of the phones until we had service again.  Fortunately, we were able to forward to our Nightwatch Volunteers so the trouble was limited to those of you trying to contact the office Tuesday and part of Wednesday.  We aplogize for any trouble this may have caused!
