Attention all Corrections Volunteers
TDCJ is preparing to begin allowing reentry of volunteers. This will happen on a limited or phased basis. We do not have any information yet on which units or dates. Those will be announced as soon as we have them. We are hopeful that as some state prisons successfully resume volunteer activities, some or all of our county jails will begin to follow suit.
In the meantime, we are asking all volunteers who wish to resume service in our jails and prisons to prepare in the following ways:
Be prepared and committed to following all health and safety guidelines in effect at the facility you are going into.
- Be prepared to have to attend a training on COVID precautions and the prison prior to starting again.
- Be prepared to have your temperature taken on every entry and also to wear a cloth mask at all times on the unit.
- Be prepared to maintain social distance with offenders at all times.
- Be prepared by having your training requirements current… the good news is right now TDCJ is allowing all volunteers the opportunity to renew your training online.
You can check your current training status as a TDCJ volunteer at the TDCJ.gov web site and renew online if you are due. Please do this immediately.
