Board and Intergroup Rep Meetings, May 10th, 2012

Just a reminder to our DIA Board members and Intergroup Reps, that we will be meeting Thursday May 10th, 2012. The Board Meeting will be held at the Central Office, 6162 E Mockingbird Lane, Suite 213. Dallas, TX 75214. If the doors are locked please press the intercom buttons for Suite 214 or 215 located by the front door. With the expansion it is easier to hear you from the buzzer for 215. You can also use my cell phone 214-405-1978, we will “buzz” you inside the building. The Board Meeting will begin at 6:30 pm.
The Intergroup Reps will meet at 8pm in the church across the street from the office. We meet in the detatched building in back of The First United Lutheran Church, 6202 E Mockingbird Lane, at the corner of Mockingbird and Norris. There is plenty of parking at the church and in back of the Intergroup building. We hope to see everyone there.
The office will be open for 1/2 hour after the Intergroup Meeting for literature, group orders or gift buying. If you want to pick-up a large order please let us know ahead of time so we can pull the order. Call 214-887-6699, email: janis@aadallas.org or steve@aadallas.org. We will have it ready for you.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES

Help is needed to carry the AA message of recovery to incarcerated inmates at Hutchins State Jail. ( Hutchins State Jail is just 11.4 miles south of Dallas at the intersection of I-45 and I-20) Meetings on Friday and Tuesday nights at 7pm need volunteers. Your help is needed, NOW. If not you………WHO???? For more information contact: Freda W @ 972-948-0675 or Larry J @ 214-734-9256 (Volunteers must be TDJC approved to participate.)

Help is also needed at the 2012 Texas State Convention of Alcoholics Anonymous. The convention will be held in the Metroplex this year, June 8-10, 2012 at the Westin Hotel (DFW). The Greeters Committee needs volunteers to make sure everyone in attendance feels welcomed. If you would be interested in being a greeter, contact: Teresa R @ 214-707-4020 or Bubba R @ 214-563-0408.

SIGNED MEETINGS FOR SPECIAL NEEDS MEMBERS BEGINS IN APRIL

We will have three groups participating in our first attempt to have sign interpreters at three meetings a week. They will become available the first of April, 2012 but you must contact us ahead of time so we can have the interpreter available to you. We are very excited about starting this service and appreciate the groups willing to be test groups. The following meetings are slated to participate:

Monday, 7:30pm Newcomers Meeting at Cornerstone Group

Wednesday, 7:00 pm, open meeting at the Chicago Group

Friday, 7:30pm Speaker meeting at the Clean Air North Group.

If you have members or if you are a member of Alcoholics Anonymous with special needs please contact the office at : janis@aadallas.org or our Special Needs Committee Chair, Dave C, davecochran2000@gmail.com.

Please note: we will not have an interpreter available unless requested. We hope this begins an upsurge in our Special Needs in the Dallas area. If there are groups that regularly have interpreters that we are unaware of, please contact the office.

(The Dallas Intergroup Association will be funding this resource until a time when the groups can take over if possible)

FAITHFUL FIVERS PROGRAM

The Dallas Central Office has had a program for individual donations for some time called The Faithful Fivers. The groups that support us do a fabulous job and are much appreciated. However, the majority of the groups we serve do not support the Intergroup on a monthly or quarterly basis as is easily seen by looking at the monthly group donation reports given out at Intergroup Rep Meetings. One of the ways we get a little extra financial support is through individual donations. The Faithful Fivers was originally set up for an individual to contribute $5.00 a month to the Intergroup. You can give more or less depending on what you want to do. This program has continued to decline largely I think because no one knows about it. If you would like to become a Faithful Fiver we can set up an automatic credit card deduction, send in a check once a month or whenever you choose. Our ability to continue 12 Step work depends on donations. We do not make enough money on literature to keep the doors open for long. If anyone would like more information or would like to sign up to be a Faithful Fiver just give us a call. We appreciate your support.

Cook-Off Trophies are Ready!

The winners of the Chili Cook-Off and the Cornbread Competition can some pick up the group trophies anytime. We can also arrange to present the trophy to your group if you prefer. Or, you can pick up trophies after the Intergroup Rep meeting next Thursday, March 8th. Let us know what you want to do!! They are engraved and ready to go to their new homes.

6TH ANNUAL CHILI COOK OFF WINNERS!!

We had a wonderful turn out for the Chili Cook-off and Cornbread Contest!! If you missed it you missed a lot of fun. We had well over 200 people come to join in the fellowship and to eat a lot of chili! The 2012 Winners are:

1st Prize: SUNDAY MORNING LIVE GROUP (White Chicken Chili)

2nd Prize: CORNERSTONE GROUP (Sassy Chili)

3rd Prize: NO HASSLE GROUP (Valentine Chili)

The first ever CORNBREAD WINNER:

CORNERSTONE GROUP for their “Amusement Park Cornbread“. (The recipe will be in the next DIAlog.)

Thanks to all our volunteers and members that came to make this an evening of fun and fellowship. Our speaker, Danny B from Spring, Texas did a great job as well. We will have CD’s of the event available this week. As soon as the trophies are engraved with the winner’s information we will let the winning groups know.

6TH ANNUAL DIA CHILI COOK-OFF

DIA Chili Cook Off 2012

Join us for the chili cook-off on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St.Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane, Dallas, TX 75230. Get your best recipe and best cook and see if your group can take home this year’s 1st Place trophy!! The winner will have their group’s name inscribed on the permanent plaque in the Central Office, along with previous winners: Georgetown, Town North, Legacy, Little Elm and Lewisville. The top three entries will receive trophies and ribbons. We will also raffle off gifts during the party. Winning cooks (masked of course) get their photos on the front page of the DIAlog.

5PM: Chili Check-in

5:30pm: Judging

6pm: Dinner

7pm: Winners/Awards Announced

7:30pm: AA Speaker, Danny B from Spring, TX.
