2010 DIA CHILI COOK OFF WINNERS
Wednesday, 14 April 2010

Thanks to everyone that attended and volunteered at the 2010 DIA Chili Cook-Off!  We had a great new space with plenty of room and the speaker, Tom N. did a wonderful job.  Here are the winners:

FIRST PLACE:  THE LITTLE ELM GROUP
SECOND PLACE:  THE LITTLE ELM GROUP
THIRD PLACE:  THE LAKEWOOD GROUP

While not quite a sweep, The Little Elm Group took the top two prizes.  What is their secret? They have a "taste off" before the cook-off.  Members bring their chili and the best is selected for the DIA Cook-off.  They have been a presence in the the cook-off for several years and have worked hard to come up with a winning chili.  Obviously, they did so this year.  Congratulations to Little Elm, Lakewood and all the groups that entered.  The " disguised" contest winners will be featured in the upcoming newsletter.  Maybe we can convince the winners to give us a recipe?

Newsflash

The September 2010 Book of the Month will be:  Voices of Long-Term Sobriety, Old-Timers' Stories from the AA Grapevine. This is one of Grapevine's recent publications and a very good one.  The collection of 42 stories from long time AA members tell how they hit bottom and got sober, as well as vivid descriptions of the early days of AA.  One section, titled, "Living History" is a wonderful selection of "the old days".  Usually $10, thru September the book will be 50% off to individual members.  A great buy for $5!!
